Background
The Line 2 Sewage Pumping Station Upgrade was undertaken by the Regional Municipality of Niagara to improve the reliability, capacity, and operational performance of an existing municipal sewage pumping station. The project included upgrades to the wet well and valve chamber, replacement of aging pumping equipment and lifting systems, installation of a new metering chamber, modernization of the control room, and enhancements to the station’s instrumentation and automation systems.
Valley Integration was selected to provide the instrumentation, PLC hardware, programming, remote monitoring, and commissioning services, delivering a modern control solution capable of supporting continuous operation and remote management of critical wastewater infrastructure.
Requirement
The pumping station modernization required a reliable automation and instrumentation platform capable of supporting upgraded process equipment while maintaining continuous operation of a remote municipal facility. The solution needed to provide:

- Local operator interface for monitoring and equipment control.

- Supply, commissioning, and operator training for plant instrumentation, including primary elements and transmitters.
- Supply of Rockwell CompactLogix PLC hardware, PLC programming, and application software development.
- Integration of upgraded instrumentation and control systems with the facility’s existing SCADA platform.
- Implementation of a 24/7 remote monitoring and control system for the pumping station and associated remote facility devices.
- System testing, commissioning, and documentation to ensure reliable operation of the upgraded pumping station.
